Sora alternatives after the shutdown
OpenAI discontinued the Sora app and website on 26 April 2026 and removed the Sora 2 API on 24 September 2026. If you made videos with Sora, these are the closest replacements, all available on Montagea.
Facts about Sora checked in October 2026 against its public pages (sources below).
| Feature | Sora | Montagea |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Discontinued: the app and website on 26 April 2026, the API on 24 September 2026. | Available on the web. |
| Your old videos | OpenAI's help article points to an export page; data is deleted after the final export window. | Your generations stay in your history and can be downloaded. |
| Video with sound | No longer available. | Veo 3.1 generates sound with every clip; Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0 and MiniMax H3 can generate sound too. |
| Long takes | No longer available. | Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 render up to 30 seconds in one take. |
| Turning a story into a film | No longer available. | Gigi plans a film scene by scene, generates the shots and edits them into one video with music, voice-over and subtitles. |
What Montagea does differently
- Veo 3.1 is the closest single replacement: it generates sound with the picture and renders up to 4K.
- For longer takes, Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 run up to 30 seconds.
- Gigi plans a story scene by scene and edits the shots into one film.
Moving over from Sora
- Export your Sora videos first, while the export window is open.
- Paste your Sora prompts into Veo 3.1 or Seedance 2.5, and describe the sound you want in a "Sound:" line.
- Use an exported Sora clip as a reference video on models that accept one: Seedance 2.x, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni.
Questions
Is Sora still available anywhere?
OpenAI removed the Sora app and the API. Some sites still list Sora 2; whether it still generates there after the API removal on 24 September 2026 is unclear.
What is the best Sora alternative?
For Sora-style clips with sound, Veo 3.1; for longer takes, Seedance 2.5 or Wan 3.0. The comparison pages show them side by side on the same prompts.
Is Montagea free?
You can start free: new accounts get a credit grant, some models are free-tier, and MiniMax H3 at 720p and Qwen-Image 2.1 have a daily free allowance. Pro models such as Veo 3.1 need a subscription or a credit pack.
